The MLK - Moving the Lives of Kids - Community Mural Project is a program whose mission is to create a place where people from all walks of life can come together to learn how to become socially functional, skill build, expand positive peer groups, express, and inspire.
Currently, we've produced more than a combined 500 murals in Pittsburgh, Miami, Atlanta, Texas, North Carolina, Detroit, Brazil and Haiti. The dimensions are larger than life. The colors are purposefully vivid and visually stimulating. The images are jazzy and abstract. The narratives painted are of great historical significance. Most importantly, we are developing the vast artistic and intellectual wealth represented by our gifted youth.
Many artists have come forth to mentor over 1000 youth and their families in the production and tremendous value of public art as a way of strengthening communities. Kids learn about the historic figures and events of their neighborhoods and then translate what they learn into beautiful organic images on the walls.

Hundreds of young men and women throughout the world have applied to be a part of this process. All young artists were considered based on their experience, artistic skills and dedication to the process of art. At the end of the process each student who commits to the thirty hours a week of work, and the four hours a week of class will be rewarded with a stipend. They will take home not only payment for hard work, but also a new set of skills, and a sense of worth in themselves and their communities.
The goal is to show young men and women who are in a transitional phase in their lives approaching high school graduation - the realities and benefits of work ethic and creativity. The instructors involved with the kids are established and experienced educators who are providing artistic guidance while sharing with them their experiences as living, working artists. Some of the youth will go on to pursue higher education in the arts or consider careers in creative fields. The MLK Community Mural Project offers a rare opportunity to not only learn about the communities history, but also to be a part of it.
