International Artist Kyle Holbrook Creates Peace Mural in Hanoi as Part of Global Peace Tour
HANOI, VIETNAM — Internationally recognized American mural artist Kyle Holbrook has completed a new public mural at Bia Hoi 165, located at 165 Hoang Hoa Tham Street, Hanoi, celebrating unity, cultural connection, and peace through art.
The mural marks Vietnam as the third country in Holbrook’s ongoing Peace Mural Tour, following projects in the Philippines and Shanghai, China, with additional countries scheduled across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas as part of a 19 nation global initiative promoting shared humanity through public art.
Created in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Bia Hoi 165, a beloved neighborhood gathering space known for bringing people together, the exterior mural features Holbrook’s signature Peace Symbol, formed by a human hand gesture representing cooperation, understanding, and collective responsibility among people worldwide.
Rather than making political statements, the work focuses on universal human values and mutual respect, honoring Vietnam’s culture, resilience, and deep sense of community. Inside the restaurant, Holbrook also completed a series of murals inspired by the natural beauty, landmarks, and everyday life of Hanoi and Vietnam, visible from the street and designed to brighten the surrounding neighborhood.
Bia Hoi culture represents connection, conversation, and shared experience — qualities that made the restaurant a natural location for the project.
“The Peace Tour is about listening first,” Holbrook said.
“Coming to Vietnam carries deep meaning for me. This is a country with profound history, strength, and beauty. My intention was not to speak over that history, but to contribute something respectful a reminder that peace begins with human connection. Art can create moments where people simply gather, smile, and recognize themselves in one another.”
The mural transforms the restaurant façade into a welcoming visual landmark while reinforcing the role of community gathering spaces as places where understanding naturally grows.
Holbrook, founder of the MLK Mural Project, has created community driven murals across nearly 49 U.S. states and more than 45 countries, working alongside local residents, students, and cultural partners worldwide. The Hanoi installation continues his mission of using public art as a bridge between cultures.
The Peace Mural Tour will continue throughout 2026 across multiple continents, promoting collaboration, cultural appreciation, and unity through shared creative expression.
